Should I get EOS R :) - for non pro photographer ;)
Oct 28, 2018
I decided to buy EOS R on Monday but still have some doubts. Maybe you guys can help me
Firstly: I am not pro photographer - I don't earn money on photos
Secondly: I mainly shoot landscapes (in various conditions) and concerts (both out and in doors), sometimes portraits (but who knows - maybe I will start to do them more often in the future)
Videos: I own Panasonic GH5 with metabones adapter so I can use my canon L lenses, so EOS R will be just an addition to GH5 - not mainly one.
Lenses: I own couple of L lenses so I don't want to get Sony and another adapter
Questions:
I found in manual that I can set focus point by using cursors and touch screen. Is it comfortable to use cursors ( I imagine that having wet fingers will prevent me from using touch screen)
Can I prevent viewfinder of displaying current exposure lvl? I want to have constant view without any changes while I will adjust shutter speed or aperture. (I think that it is possible but manual is not clear enough for me)
Durability - Is EOS R somehow robust like 5d4? I will use it on couple of big trips next year (including Iceland and I don't want to have equipment that will break with any hit or bump)
AF with EF lenses: is it as accurate as on 5d4 ? I know that we will have some updates with new firmware but is Eye AF usable?
Burst shots? Is 3 shots/second really so disappointing ? Any news that firmware update will update this limit to maybe 5 shorts per second?
If you discourage me to buy EOS R I will get 5d m4. Its a tank however its big and I think that Canon will introduce more ER lenses and maybe some more features with software updates and basically will go more in mirrorless direction... And i am not pro - I can live with one card slot (I can do live backup), get grip to extend battery life etc... but in the end I don't know if I am doing right by choosing EOS R instead of 5d4
