Canon 70-200 f/4L (non is)

I used the Canon 70-200 f/4 USM IS version with an MC-11 adapter. Worked pretty well, except for autofocus outside the central area - lots of hunting there without achieving focus. I switched to the Sony version of this lens and it's great.

I thought $250 to use the Canon 70-200 f/4L was a good deal, considering what I had invested in the A7iii + Tamron 28-75. Yes...it doesn't focus as fast, but peaking helps manual focus, and that will work for my purposes.

Absolutely. For me, I'm often in precarious situations where I need the AF to just work, so it was worth the upgrade. But, as far as I could tell, the IQ was fine with the Canon and MC-11

with Sigma MC-11 and Canon 70-200 f/4L USM.

Nine out of ten times it did lock focus near the sides of the image and I thought it might have something to do with the lighting level, but that was not the case.  (May also have something to do with the size of what you'd like to focus on and how much contrast it has.)

In critical situations when time is of the essence it's probabl best to turn the switch on the lens to MF and rely on the camera peaking.  That works very, very well, for me.
