Two downsides to the XF18-55...

- This might be market-specific, but its resale value is quite low, probably because of its 'kit-lens' status. I got it with my X-T3 and I now find myself in a spot where it just doesn't make much financial sense to have it replaced, guaranteeing its spot for as long as I'm with the X-system.
Don't get me wrong, it helps that its IQ is good, has handy dimensions and I surprisingly dig the metal zoom ring. Overall, I can see why everyone has good things to say about this lens. Its utility reaches a sweet spot such that even the low resale value has become somewhat an advantage at making it a keeper.
- And just because of that, it aggravates GAS by encouraging me to fantasize think about complementary lens outside of its zoom range or aperture. I started my X-T3 with a simple question about the XF16-55 vs this 'kit lens', and after days of pondering I reckon I'm not that into the former any more.
The XF18-55 delivers the good at more than half the cost, helped more so by the low resale value if we are assuming it will be a replacement rather than an addition. In other words, if I had planned a little more carefully, I should have just topped up for the XF16-55 as my only lens.
Now that the XF18-55 is staying, I'm thinking of getting primes to complement it when the need and money comes around, such as the XF50 I asked earlier . However, if I am interested in going wide and with a much faster aperture, than my natural conclusion is the XF16 F1.4, which is still lighter and a little smaller than the XF16-55.
Either ways, the XF18-55 has successfully hoodwinked me into thinking about expanding a lens collection, when all I was hoping for is a single lens to see me through...
