EOS R thoughts, photos (tl;dr - it's awesome)

I had the pleasure of picking this camera up last week even though I had originally gone into the store looking to get the Nikon Z7. Owning an array of bodies (Sony A7R3, Olympus OM-D E-M1ii, Panasonic GH5, Canon 5Div), there was some trepidation about getting another one for work, but the moment I was able to hold this camera I knew they had my money.

Some thoughts:

  • The battery grip adds heft, but completes the camera IMO. It feels great in hand, comes with the USB-C charger to make life easier, and balances out the larger EF lenses
  • Using the adapter with both a 16-35/2.8iii and 24-70/2.8ii is wonderful. AF is fast, focus has been spot on, and the balance (with grip) is there
  • Navigating the menus via touch is so, so great. It's fast, accurate, and makes adjustments a breeze
  • I was dead certain that not having a joystick crushed any dreams I had of loving this camera. Turns out I was dead wrong! Enabling touch+drag AF in the menus has made selecting an AF-point with my eye to the EVF a breeze. It's faster and more intuitive than nudging a joystick along
