Camera Quandry

Hey everyone. This is my first post here I have been lurking a while.

I just purchased a Nikon D3500 and I feel I might be regretting it a bit after finding a great deal on a Canon SL2. The Nikon has been fun and I've taken some great pictures (by my standards) so far. My sister works for Arizona Highways magazine and the photo editor there recommended the D3400 to her so I blindly bought the D3500 without considering much else. My main priority is stills of my children, outdoor photos on hikes, kids sports, etc. But, I did plan on using the video...

I tried using the video on the Nikon and I confirmed what many already know: the video autofocus is pure garbage. I feel it will be practically unusable for me as all my video will include fidgety children.

So, should I without hesitating return the Nikon, which I already know takes pictures well above my standards? The SL2 seems to be what I wanted all along.
