Sandhill cranes ...
5

Hi

Sandhill cranes migration season is here. They migrate away from cold climates to go south.  Along the way, they stop at many places to refuel. Fortunately, one stop is close to where I live (about 2 hours drive away). This last weekend, friends and I went there to take our chances.  We had wanted to see them at dawn, witness their dance rituals, and see the fly away.

I brought along my trusted combo (7D Mark II + 100-400mm II + 1.4x).  Since I wanted to take pictures very early in the morning (read very low light --> ISO higher than 12500), I also brought another combo (5D Mark IV + 400mm f/5.6) with me.  First 4 shots  were taken with this combo. The rest of the pictures were taken with the 7D Mark II combo. Images are noisy but getting pictures that you like is more important, right?

I have said it before but it is worth repeating. 7D Mark II is a joy to use.

Here are the pictures:

I forgot to mention that I was lucky to see and take pictures of a bird of prey.  It is a huge bonus.

Thanks for viewing

Duy
