Excellent do-everything lens, as good as the 14-140
4

I have being using the 14-140-II since november 2017, and just bought the 12-60 f3.5-5.6 because I missed the 12mm wide end.

I was tempted by the PanLeica f2.8-4, but was put off by the price.

The 3.5-5.6 is very affordable, especially in bundle with a new body, and will allow me to decide whether the 12-60 range suits me better than the 14-140 for travel.

My travel combo in Tuscany last june was the 14-140 on G7 and the 12-32 on GM5.

In Peru last april, and in Germany and Vietnam in 2017, I had the K3 with 18-135 (13.5-100 equivalent angle of view on M43)  and the 12-32 on GM5.

My Pentax gear is perfect as regards IQ, and I own several of the outstanding "limited" Pentax primes but I hate its weight an bulk.

I also have the Pentax 17-70 f4, which is a very good lens whose range is very close to 12-60 in M43: 17-70 in APS-C is a 13-53 equivalent angle of view in M43. But IMO this 17-70 f4 is much too big and heavy for travel.

I also appreciate the ability to shoot from the waist or from odd angles when using a mirrorless.

On my next trip I will try the 12-60 on GX8 and the 35-100 on GM5, as IMO the 35-100 is better than the 14-140 across their common range.

If the 12-60 range really suits me for sightseeing, I might pull the trigger for the Pan Leica 2.8-4.

My first impressions after 4 weeks with the 3.5/5.6 on GX8 and GM5:

-Size and weight: the 12-60 is very close to the 14-140

-Sharpness and rendering (I did not shoot test charts, only real life scenes): IMO, the 12-60 is better than the 14-140 , obviously sharper at the wide end and a little more "3D pop" across their common range. Which is what I expected, as  a 5x zoom is not as extreme as a 10x zoom.
