The 18-55 - not really a portrait lens but it does it all pretty well

Yesterday I went onto a hike with some friends off of the US, here in Capri the wether already seemed like coughing to warn about the upcoming storm, I was thorn with which gear to use, I think this being the other side of the medal of having too much gear, the D800 with the do-it-all-but-nothing-well-enough 28-300 and the 85 in case of some headshot or the D800 with just the 80-200 and the old but tiny 50/1.4. What about the X-Pro1 with the 18-55 and the 14mm? Why not but then what if I want some more range? I put the old CY135/2.8 onto the adapter but then I thought, why bothering with the heavy weight of the Nikon or manual focus on the X-Pro1, let me behave like a tourist and mount the 18-55, well, it was the right choice, I only took a dozen shots like a real tourist, a group shot of my American friends and then a couple of my son with our sweet dog and then, to justify having an extra lens with me, a through-the-window shot of a very common sight but when we crossed people leaving the Cetrella valley after the "Chestnut feast" I didn't have time to switch lenses (oh yes, I also had the little but great 35/1.4, I didn't mention it not to seem a gear freak) and as such I only had time to rotate the diaphragm all the way before I took two shots of Renato, a very well known chef here in Capri who gave his contribution to the feast, his eyes always happy even tho tired.
Technically wise I regret not having the 35 mounted on to shoot wide open to blur the background but better then 18-55 than nothing uh?!
Grazie for reading and watching
