How does the Sony RX100 VI IQ compare with older ILCs?

It's well known that all other things being equal, a smaller sensor means smaller pixels with less light and therefore lower image quality. However there are other factors that have improved image quality over time, like more powerful processors and better JPEG engines, better IBIS, etc. So obviously if you went back far enough, you'd fine that older ILCs actually have worse IQ than current to-of-the-line P&S like the Sony.

My question is how far back would you have to go to find an ILC with roughly comparable IQ to the RX100 VI? Obviously some have lower pixel counts but suppose you normalize results for that variable. How does the RX100 compare with for example a D90 or 70D or NEX-7, or even some M4/3 cameras like the Olympus E-P3 or Panasonic GF1? How many years behind the ICL is the current state of P&S IQ?
