Comparison tests of the 24-70mm f/4 S
12

I've been shooting with the 24-70 f/4 S and have been very impressed. I saw it clearly outresolves the DX 16-80mm f/2.8-4E when shot in DX mode. I was surprised that it also outresolved the FX 24-70mm f/2.8G shot at f/4. I decided to shoot a chart to check what I was seeing in my photos. Results are below.

All photos were taken in DX mode. I shot the 20-70 f/4S @ 70mm and set the focal length of the other lenses to match the magnification. The DX lens ended up being shot at 75mm, the FX lens at 62mm. This would lead me to believe the 24-70 f/4 suffers from some focus breathing, but less than 16-80mm. All shot with bounced flash, ISO 64, 1/200th second, f/4.

I was careful to align the camera to the chart using a mirror. EFCS on, VR off (camera and lens if available). Not sure if I made any other mistake. Comments, observations, and advice welcome.
