I have found the same behaviour on a recently acquired xe2s using manual Nikon lenses. I think that the matrix meter is designed to measure differences in brightness at different regions if the sensor. Because the stopped down version has stronger dark and light areas than the wide open version, the system is accounting for the stronger bright areas by reducing the exposure. Changing the metering to average gives the exoected results. Namely, very similar metering. Very interesting conversation.

regards Si.
