What do you know about BoliOptics?
Oct 21, 2018
I was considering getting this microscope objective: https://bolioptics.com/objective-working-distance-34mm-10x-infinity-super-long-working-distance-plan-apochromatic-nir-objective-ir18091131/
The idea is to mount it at the front of a 200mm lens, as it is an infinity focus optic and should provide 10x magnification at 200mm. This is done via an adapter with the right threading or the optic and filter threads for the lens, e.g. like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/M26X0-706-Mitutoyo-microscope-female-thread-to-M58mm-58X0-75-adapter-micrography/112098950081?hash=item1a199e3bc1:g:EaIAAOSwMtxXtC5c:rk:1:pf:0
The lens is quite similar to this Mitutoyo lens in several specifications: https://www.edmundoptics.com/p/10x-mitutoyo-plan-apo-infinity-corrected-long-wd-objective/6623/ but seems to be slightly better in some characteristics, e.g. 34mm vs. 33.5mm working distance, wider range of apochromatic correction (apparently, if I'm reading this correctly and they're measuring the same thing), 400-1200nm vs. 435-655nm. So Mitutoyo is fairly well known... but I'm a bit skeptical of BoliOptics because I can find very little information about them other than that they are a very new company (maybe 3-5 years old). Of course then I'm just even more skeptical that they have manage to design and manufacture the wide product range that they have... are they a rebrand of something else? Their giant sale price also makes one wonder.
I'm brand new to microscope objectives. I've done enough reading to know the basics (I won't be buying an oil immersion lens and using it in air, or vice versa ), and I'm aware of the name of the stalwarts (Nikon, Leica, Meiji, Jenoptik, etc...) but It's entirely possible BoliOptics is a well respected brand and my Google search is bad today.
So then... is the BoliOptics objective likely a good value roughly on par with the Mitutoyo lens, or am I being a sucker?
I know I might have better luck asking on a microscope forum, but I thought I would try here first since I have an account here
