You can buy a cable that attaches to the hot shoe and the remote flash.  You can also buy a separate flash trigger that uses IR to communicate with the flash.

I find these options unnecessary.  When you use the built in flash to trigger the remote flash, I see no effect of the built in flash on the exposure of the subject.  You don't need to dial back on this flash intensity.
