Thanks to Russel and Alan for the replies!
I forgot to mention that I will use it for freediving & snorkeling only, I'm not a scuba diver.
But I learned from your comments that one important disadvantage is the missing flash option. That's something I need. My main problem with the larger housing is its size. Up to now I use a Canon D10 and D30 - very comfortable to carry in one hand when freediving. That's why I thought the small Ikelite would be better for me.
hmmm ...
Didn't you get back scatter with the flash on camera with the small Canon D?
With the Ikelite you could use some video lights that cost 25 to 40 USD, on Amazon. I have 2 that use GoPro style batteries. The one with many smaller LEDs is better than the one with just 3 larger LEDs. They can also be used as bicycle light, emergency lights (flashing signal). There is another one that has sealed battery and it seems more powerful. FOund on Amazon. They will not overpower the sun, but they can give a fill maybe at 10 m deep and if you go at night / dusk. I did some video with the Firefly 8S action cam and those lights work good. You can strap a light on your left wrist and attach another one with a go pro mount on top of the housing.
I also have an Olympus TG-5, it is good but IQ is not as good as a 1" sensor camera.
You could look for a closeout, new old stock Nikon AW1, if cheap it could be worth. IQ is quite good. It is a brick though, no buoyancy, but maybe that's better for freediving / snorkeling (you can always attach a float) Issue is that it is prone to flood, but if you are religious with the seals it may work.
