Pixel 3 computational advances in traditional cameras

With just a single camera and lens, the Pixel 3 will no doubt vault to the top of the smartphone camera rankings--largely on the back of its computational prowess.

This begs the question: why don't small-sensor cameras (e.g., RX100), which are increasingly under threat from smartphones, employ such computation?

Is it user resistance? user apathy? something else?

To help clarify matters, here's a poll.

POLL

I don't mind if my small-sensor camera performs worse because it is still a "proper" camera.
