Is this cheating? Photoshopping out trash cans, light poles etc

I discovered long time ago I can do this in PS7 (Shot with Nikon D70). This is very extreme, usually I am tempted to remove one or two small details in a photo: a trash can, a light pole, a traffic sign. I usually just keep the distracting detail, and feel really guilty when I am tempted to photoshop something out. I feel that as a photographer, my first objective is to render the scene by composing and framing, and that done, whatever is in the frame does make the part of the scene, and I have no business removing anything in PP. So I do not do it, although sometimes I am very tempted.

If it is a piece of trash on the sidewalk, I feel it is ok to take it out.  What I have a problem with, is any fixed structure -- I feel I am lying and cheating if I remove any of them.

What's your take?

Here's the big ol' D70 Example:
