Corregidor Island - The Tides of War part 1
3

After the fall of Bataan Peninsula, the final organized American Defense of the Philippine Islands (A US Territory at that time) took place at Corregidor Island.  The troops at Bataan held out for about 4 months, after the Japanese invasion.  Corregidor fell about a month later due to lack of food, ammunition and medicine.  American troops from Corregidor Island then joined the survivors of the Bataan death march in Japanese prison camps.

All photos are taken with the Panasonic FZ-1000.  Some are daylight and some are high ISO.

Map of Malinta Tunnel.  The mountain fortress.

Command headquarters inside. Malinta Tunnel

With the 1,000 bed hospital already overflowing, wounded troops were placed wherever there was room in the tunnels.

MacArthur's Command headquarters.  (look to the back and you will see a door to his private quarters.

Collapsed tunnel leading down to the Navy Docks

Your's truly outside the Malinta Tunnel Entrance.  I was quite heavy back then.  Have since lost nearly 45 lbs or 20 Kilos.

Bombed out Artillery barracks

Mile long Barracks, Officer Quarters.  It is called Mile Long because if you start on any floor and run the length of the hallways on all three floors, than you will have ran 1 mile.

Part II to follow.
