Shooting fall landscapes with D5600: Question

I got my D5600 at the same time the weather turned very cloudy, rainy, and yes, some snow already. Finally, tomorrow it will be sunny and somewhat warmer. For one day. So, we are heading out to see if there is any fall color left.

I have not had much chance to use my new camera.

Advice needed. Which focus mode would be best for shooting landscapes?

I have been reading about focus modes, but a few shots I took in the seven seconds of sunshine last weekend did not seem very sharp. Right now I am assuming it is me, not the camera.

Suggestions? TIA.
