Is sample variation less of an issue with TZ100 (compard to the TZ200)?

In this site's review of the TZ200 they list the following under cons: "Significant sample variation on lenses of three different cameras". They provide the specifics here: "The lens on our ZS200 is very soft, especially in the center of the frame. We tried another ZS200 and it was better in the center but was worse on the left side. The third camera was tried was even worse than the first. Your experience may vary."

Although I consider the camera to be extremely attractive (the only other thing I don't like is the fixed LCD screen), I find this QC issue to be a huge turn off. Is the more modest 25-250mm lens of the TZ100 a safer bet?
