Advice on using the 70-200 f4

I recently picked up a used Sony FE 70-200 f4 and have been practicing taking portraits with not great results.  In the past, I've never had an issue getting sharp focus with my Sony 18-105 or Sony 35 1.8 but many of my photos are missing focus slightly or are not sharp with the 70-200.

I've been increasing the shutter speed to compensate for the focal length but that doesn't seem to be helping much.  My shutter speeds are usually at least double the focal length.  I've also tried to be as steady as possible while taking the photo.  I haven't used a tripod yet because I'm usually on the move taking portraits and a tripod doesn't really work for me in that scenario.

I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with the lens.  I do get some keepers but most of them just aren't up to the sharpness that I'm used to and after doing a lot of research on this lens everyone raves about how sharp it is.

Anyway, if any has suggestions for me to try I'm open.  Thanks for help.
