A lot depends on how much money you want to spend and how much lens you want to carry along. If you don't want a macro lens for some reason, and want to do close up work with Canon, the new 100-400mm L IS II lens close focuses to three feet which ought to fill the frame with toadstools nicely. The Canon 70-300mm L IS lens is lighter and cheaper and still focuses to four feet. Adding a Canon 500D diopter to either lens will allow you to do true macro down to thumbnail sized subjects.  But having said all this, I would get a nice 90-100mm macro lens.
