Plate Coral

Ah, the lowly plate/artichoke coral.  I used to give it no thought as I swam by:

But I never looked closely until this summer.   Now I know to get close, and then crop.  Some of these look like old sci-fi magazine covers of distant galaxies.  Others seem to have small mouths ready to eat you.

Here is a closer look at the coral from the shot above.  Not bad, but nothing as spectacular as others I've seen.

When these things are good, they are very good:

Look at this one full size and tell me you don't see mouths!

Just for something completely different, here is a Corralimorph, a type of anemone I think.  Usually found in groups making a sort of small carpet, this is the only time I've seen one on its own.
