Birds in Flight

I went out at sunrise this morning and tried out the Canon R with my 500mm f4 and 1.4x TC.  Since I shoot this lens combination a lot with my 5DsR I figured why not see what the R can or can't do. The camera seemed to track reasonably well and I found it easier to do using "Zone AF" rather than single point or expanded AF.

Overall it is not at good as my other Canon's I currently own but I also didn't expect it to be as it is a mid level mirrorless camera. I would say so far for moving objects using C-AF it compares to my experience with the Fuji X-T2 and Olympus EM-1. Both good cameras but not ideal for BIF or fast action. I still prefer an OVF over EVF but that is just my preference.

So the camera can work for BIF but don't expect miracles. Still love the camera and will experiment more using action but my primary go to will be my 5DsR for now.

This picture was taken handheld just after sunrise with a 500mm f4 IS and 1.4x TC wide open.
