DPAF vs regular phase detect- how much difference?

I get the speed difference beteeen contrast detect vs  phase detect auto focus, and how much better phase detect AF is in low light etc.

However, I do  not understand the impact of DPAF vs. regular phase detect especially in Mirrorless cameras or DSLRs in LiveView. From what I read, Sony’s PDAF is remarkably good despite the fact that they do not have DPAF, and the new Fuji T3 seems very capable as well.

Hence the question- why do people rave about DPAF, but Sony AF seems better ?

For reference, I have 3 Canon’s (5D4, 7d2, m6) all with DPAF and they are amazingly better compared to my old Rebel on LiveView mode.
