IMHO it was noticeable without a side by side.

I don't think there was a lens change between the two as the accessory lenses were the same for both as was the hood/tube adapter.

So I think something other than lens is the reason.

The grd 4 has a noticeably deeper lens mounting, making the overall body thicker. I presume this was related to the addition of IS but could it be related to this alleged change in performanc?. I say alleged because we have not seen any evidence yet:)
