In my view, after using an 18-55 for over 3 years now on Pro 1 and Pro 2 bodies, it's a great lens for what it is. Versatile, adaptable and relatively fast and light; but it will never have the IQ and speed of focus of a prime Fuji, and it's definitely not as sharp as good manual legacy glass primes from within its focal range.

The first mistake many naive users make is to think all zooms are good; or indeed that all instances of a particular zoom are good.

The second mistake with the Fuji XF zooms is to leave OIS turned on at all times; this can and often does lead to unsharp pictures as image stabilisation and autofocus fight each other. OIS is a tool in the armoury, like autofocus, ISO range, or aperture and shutter controls; one uses them only when they're needed.
