Just a heads-up for people with the old dirt-behind-the-sensor-glass problem on Lumix cameras. I sent both my Lumixes (G85, GX85) in to have the problem cleaned by Techworks, Panasonic's service contractor in Oz.

Panasonic paid to have the G85 cleaned (AU$270), even though it was out of warranty. I'm grateful to them for that. Perhaps they see it as a design fault and are doing the right thing by their customers.

The technician couldn't clean the GX85's sensor. The dirt had impregnated onto the actual sensor photosites, and they had to quote me nearly AU$500 for a new sensor. Given the camera had also developed a faulty viewfinder module, I had to say no. Another Lumix in the bin.

The take home message I think is to consider dirt behind the sensor glass like fungus on a lens - best to clean it off without delay, lest it write off your camera.
