carrying X-T2 vs view modes

hi guys
first time on Fuji/X-T2, coming from a Canon dSLR 350D, so it's a new world to me.
I have a question regarding the best view mode which consumes less battery vs carrying the camera.
I found the best view mode to me was the EVF w/ sensor. ofc with this option it's hard to make changes on the menu, but if I want to shoot straight for a few hours this option would be better (ok that some last minute changes could be made using the EVF), considering the battery economy, which the EVF will only be ON when I look through.

so last weekend when I took the X-T2 on a field test for the first time, I was just able to shoot around 200 shots (not even that I think) with a full charge of the original battery. I realized after some time that with the neck strap that I was using, when I wasn't shooting, I had the camera close to my body, causing the EVF to be ON more than what it was supposed to.

since this issue is very likely to happen, do you have any trick/tip to work around this? taking into account the less battery consumption that is possible.
btw, which view modes do you use?

thanks in advance!
