Compared to so many teardowns I have seen, the original EOS M is so beautifully assembled and neatly made, with a rigid magnesium frame and a modular design, you realise how much thought Canon put into this.

Despite having newer cameras I will always love my original M.

See here if you find this sort of thing interesting...

Another area Canon put a lot of thought and effort into was the integration of the touchscreen into the user interface, a feature which attracted a lot of criticism at the time. I think this may have been the first Canon APS C camera to have this feature (or the second if the SL1 come out first) but on the M, it was front and center and difficult to avoid.

Personally, I dislike the wheel around the D Pad because you can so easily touch it at the wrong angle and change something you didn't intend to. The touchscreen really helps because it is typically more accurate and often more efficient. It was quite a novelty in the beginning to change aperture and SS by touching a screen but I got used to it pretty quickly.

One other benefit of the touchscreen is that it makes the M a lot easier to use on a tripod. Of course a flip screen would be even better but that came later. I use the M with manual focus lenses and magnifying the image to get precise focus works very well.

yes i like using the magnifier for manual focus .. with couple of dabs and a swipe you can magnify any part of the screan in a blink of an eye ..found it much better than peaking in the sony NEX and fuji XE-2 i had ..also i like touch shutter for landscapes when i want to max out depth of field with out stopping down to much you can just tap the screan 1/2 a dozen times starting at the topish of the screan and working down and pick the optimum one ...a good touchscreen is a high priority  on any camera i would buy today as is good menus  and ergonomics ...

Now that I have said all that, I think I will take the M out tomorrow to shoot some panoramas for a project I have been working on for a while to document a large new park in our city before any "improvements" get made. The beautiful fall weather we are having right now is a perfect time to do it.

There is no argument for FF vs APS-c (or m43) with shallow DOF..as it's a law of physics and a very subjective personal thing if you want to make use of the shallow DOF only FF can offer
