Canon 200D Video autofocus issue

This is driving me crazy

I’m doing youtube videos where I record myself a lot of time in front of the camera, and very often end up with out of focus footage.

The camera is a 200D, with a 24mm pancake lens (but I kind of see the same issue with my kit lens). I use studio lights, with one ring light and a rim light

My procedure is as follow:

  1. Position me at a fixed distance from the camera (around 1,5m)
  2. White balance set to Sunny, to match the light color
  3. Set shutter speed to 1/50, and fps to 25.
  4. Aperture set to F4 (I want a little blurry background that is 2m behind me, but has tried other focal length as well like 2.8, 3.2, 5.6)
  5. Adjust ISO to 400/800 so the histogram is evenly distributed.
  6. Start the phone camera app and connect through wifi
  7. Tap the screen to make sure my head is in focus (seems the camera is tracking me when I move around. I do move a bit)
  8. I start/stop recording with the remote app, and make sure that my head is marked in focus.

This is a major issue for me, and I got the 200D because of the dual pixel autofocus

What I’m I doing wrong? Is this a camera fault?
