I would also reccomend this. I also use the 24-120 on the D500, good range and mine is sharp. Currently thinking about the new 70-300 the full frame version, instead of the 70-200.

and the 150-600mm G2 or 100-400mm. They will get your feet wet and then see if that satisfies you for a while. Other options from there would be 70-200mm or 300mm/500mm PF.

There are a lot of good options!
