I am in the camp that wants mirrorless to be smaller and lighter.  The EOS R and its lenses are so close in weight and size to the 5D IV that I have no interest in it.  For years I carried an SLR (film and digital) when traveling overseas.  Two years ago I realized I was leaving all lenses, except the 24-05 that was on the camera, behind.  Even then by the end of the day the 5D IV seemed to weigh a ton.  I would leave it behind when we went out in the evening.

I just completed a 5 week trip with the M5 and several lenses.  I carried them all day and evening.  It was a joy not to be anchored down.  I just need a comparable FF camera so that an 11 mm lens is really an 11 mm lens.  There are just too many cathedrals, castles, etc where there is no room to back up to photograph.  You need a true ultra wide angle.  I have never been able to get a good stitched photograph without a tripod.
