Re: Is the 23mm F2 a bad lens?

For low light events one stop more light than the 23/2 would be better all else being equal. The 23/1.4 might struggle a bit more than the smaller and newer 23/2 in locking focus as the light drops. If this is important to you depends on the way you shoot. The 23/1.4 is obviously an excellent lens in other ways.

The size and a host of other reasons have made me stick with the 23/2 as my main lens for general photography. While I really love the 35/2, it might be too narrow for a general purpose lens. Today’s high resolution cameras let’s you crop from 23mm to a 35mm framing if you do not intend to print big.

I did use the X100s and “t” for several years and was not bothered by softness up close shooting at f/2. It is however recognized by a lot of professional photographers as a trait of this camera and some are using this creatively and loving it. Stopping down to f/2.8 or f/4 makes a difference if you are shooting at the minimum focusing distance.  The X100 series is a unique concept in a lot of ways and I am considering getting the X100F and repurchasing the WCL (18mm) add on lens.
