If I uderstood corectly he is not switching but downgrading since Canon consider the 1DXMII a high end camera and the EOS R a midlevel camera (but I can't imagine how will look the entry level R line in this case).
He calls it switching and it is a switch. When someone goes from product A to B that is by definition a switch.
No. Switching means between brands.
It's a matter of semantics. Switching means from A to B. Not necessarily brands. That is an arbitrary definition that you have imposed. Which is fine...but it's not universally accepted. So please feel free to contact Peter if you wish to correct him.
And he seems to know what he is doing with regards to making videos...if you think you can do better or if he is wrong, then please feel free to contact him.
Bottom line: he has a ton of credibility with his work, far more than the critics of the EOS R. When they show that they know what they are doing as much as he does, then perhaps I will listen.
No matter how good he is does not make the R any better or worse for video. The fact is that the 4K crop is a major inconvenience. I left canon years ago for my video needs (still have a 6d and lenses though) and I would never get the R for video as there are much better alternatives out there. That does not mean that you can't make good videos with it but why limit yourself when you don't have to.
All cameras have limitations. The point is that some have over reacted as if the EOS R has no merits, when it obviously does. For me and apparently for Peter, the merits outweigh the shortcomings, enough to give it a try.
