Yes. We can't always control the lighting.

Sometimes we have to use a particular aperture. Sometimes we have to use a particular shutter speed.

The fact that we can't always control something, doesn't mean we should treat that something as a constant.

Sometimes we have a prime lens and can't control focal length. However that doesn't mean we should never consider the option of zooming.

Just seems odd to bring up controlling lighting in a thread about camera settings.
