Depends if you would go through the day making many big adjustments or not.

In indoor events with consistent lighting, I leave it on manual mode to stop the meter getting too influenced by the background.

For landscapes, shooting manually would present too much dial-rolling all day. I use the exposure lock & exposure compensation buttons to modify the exposure as I need.

For flash maybe I am using manual, because after all I'm often at the flash sync speed anyway.
