New Canon 50 f1.2L RF, a theory...

I theorize that the new design is actually a faster lens than f1.2 and that Canon has released it with a limitation on the aperture size for some reason.

The reason I throw this out there is that it is freaking huge compared to the current 50 f1.2L.

Current 50 f1.2L lens dimensions:

3.38 x 2.58" / 85.8 x 65.5 mm

1.28 lb / 580 g

New 50 f1.2L RF lens dimensions:

3.54 x 4.25" / 89.8 x 108.0mm

2.09 lb / 950g

The new lens is wider, considerably longer, and pushing double the weight...

What is the reason for this? The old lens was known to have an optical flaw at certain apertures and distances, but did they really need to make the lens this much bigger to fix that flaw?

Anybody in the know have an idea as to why Canon made such a huge 50mm lens?
