D90 Shutter Count - manual check

I have a Nikon D90 that I haven't used very much. I was curious to find out how many pictures I had taken on it.

I know that there are applications and sites that will do this for me if I upload the latest photo into them. However, I'm interested in doing this myself. I've imported a new NEF image into Photoshop Elements 2018 and when I get the 'File info', I see a load of XML.

Something that looks like the shutter count is in this XML snippet:

<aux:ImageNumber>1054</aux:ImageNumber>

Is ImageNumber the correct XML tag that shows the total number of shutter releases that have been made on the camera since I purchased it? If so, then I've only taken 1054 images which is quite low.

I did upload the original NEF file to a shutter count program which also showed a shutter count of 1054.
