Pentax K-1 vs. a smartphone.

Pentax K-1, SMC Pentax 28mm F2.8 K

Google Pixel XL

Setting aside the half-full half-empty stuff - no I'm not selling my K-1 anytime soon - and recognizing that to do this properly I should have used a tripod - in this handheld, lowlight situation the smartphone performance impressed me. I shot the K-1 at ISO3200 (SR on) and pushed 1 stop in post. The Pixel's built in HDR/stacking and F2 lens meant the ISO was just 1100 and the above shot is, of course, SOOC. (Or should that be SOOS?)

Pixel XL has more noise, and blows the highlights of the sky, but really both images are more ragged than I would like and in terms of usability level I would go so far as to venture they are more similar than they are different.

note to self: bring the tripod next time...
