One more thing you can do is check images from a particular lens or focal length. This can be very helpful, and even inspirational.
For instance here are some sample images (not mine) that were taken with the little EF 50mm f/1.8 STM. This lens is an absolute pleasure to use (way moreso than the older 50mm f/1.8 lenses). Some of the images in this gallery were taken with crop cameras, some on full frame. Most indicate the camera (and EXIF)...

It's often a good practice (when starting out with primes) to double, or halve the focal length for greatest versatility. Then expand (or fill in) focal lengths later as desired.
Both of these lenses provide tremendous bang for the buck, and complement the diminutive size of the SL2 very nicely.
