Rate my lens - Sony Distagon 35mm F1.4 - Sharpness test

Hi all,

Just picked up a copy of the Sony Distagon 35mm F1.4 lens. Stoked as this has been on my wish list from day 1 of getting into the Sony system.

So I've setup the rudimentary test of shooting against the bookshelf. It's not perfect, but I did measure distance to the edges to ensure it was as reasonably centered as possible. The shots are with an A7RII on tripod, with steady shot turned off, manual exposure, ISO 100, no corrections other than default Capture 1 export to JPG to cut into strips.

I'm not normally a "pixel peeper", but as this lens is such a huge investment, I want to make sure it's "reasonably" good. I don't need perfect, but I also don't want to settle if it's not performing to the level of its price tag.

To my eyes, it's definitely soft on the right hand side, especially at f1.4. At f2.8 it's still soft, but by f5.6 I'd say it's fairly even. So I'm throwing the results to the crowd of experts to see if you think the copy is "good enough" to let a little bit of softness slide.
