Why is D850 still in short supply?
2

I'm wondering why the D850 is still in short supply?  Do you think it's because:

1.  They seriously underestimated demand and a year later still can't make enough.

2.  They have some marketplace theory to support high prices for dealers and other distribution channels that leads them to purposely keep it in short supply.

3.  They're trying to drive pros to NPS who aren't already members so they can get better access to new hardware and not be subject to the shortages.

4.  They are having ongoing yield or production problems and physically can't make more than they are.

5.  They've got some theory about the lifetime sales of the D850 and think it will be better for their company if they spread that lifetime of sales over multiple years rather than satisfy all demand the first year and not sell so much the following years.

6.  For financial reasons, they won't invest in higher volume production facilities, figuring the higher demand won't last for much longer and by minimizing investment, they eke out a bit more profit (obviously balanced by the sales they don't make because of the shortage).

7.  For financial reasons, they just never want to end up with excess inventory in any market so they're making sure they never have excess by planning to have a small shortage everywhere.

8.  Some other reason - please state your idea.
