I think the EOS R has a tough market. It's pretty much what a 6DII should have been but I think that moment has passed for many potential 6DII buyers. Many will have left Canon, some would have got the 5DIV and some would have reluctantly purchased the 6D.
In my opinion though it's what the 6DII should have been in 2017 and against the A7III and Z6 it's not a very compelling option. I guess they are relying on EF lens owners?
That's really where I'm at. Who knows how many others are in the same boat though.
I've had the 6d for a few years. I'm not super heavily invested in lenses, but I got really good deals on my L's and it'd likely cost me a lot more time and money to totally switch systems and get new lenses.
Sony + adapter is a better option, but you have to spend a good chunk of money on the adapter and it'll never function as well as native glass.
There are some aspects of the 6dII I like, but not enough to bother with upgrading. The 5dIV is so much more expensive, it's hard to justify. To me, the R really hits a sweet spot - but again, it's hard to say how many others are in the same situation.
Same here! Was eagerly waiting for the 6D2 and really tried to talk it up for myself. Now it's even significantly down in price but I just cannot ignore the disappointment and don't want to invest in yesterday tech after waiting for years.
5D4 is not justifiable in price and is too big and heavy as well.
Quite happy with my 6D for what it is but I never had a really good AF. The R has exactly that and is smaller and lighter, too.
Price of the R seems ok and will sure come down a bit soon.
I have 2 L lenses and 3 Sigma Art. No way I am changing brand. I like Canon's menus, DPP and ergonomics. I don't care if the R is not 100% on par with the Sony A73. It's plenty good enough and a huge step up from my old 6D and 5D2.
I might get one next year with the 24-105 if the reviews are good.
