XPS 15 FHD vs 4k for photo and video editing

So I am leaning towards the new XPS 15. But I keep reading about scaling problems, battery life, and uselessness of having a 4k screen on a laptop.

I am a photographer and I currently edit all of my photos on a 2014 MacBook Air screen (1140x900). So even the FHD model of the XPS is probably going to be a huge improvement when I am on the go.

But when I am editing at home I would like the ability to pixel peep and enjoy the higher resolution that 4k has to offer.

So why not get the FHD XPS and a really good monitor? The question is at what price does a "really good" monitor start? I would be saving 300 or so on getting the FHD model over the 4k on the laptop.

Quick question version:

Will the XPS FHD be that much better than the Macbook Air Screen I am currently using?

A good 4k monitor to get to pair with the XPS if I go the FHD route?

Thank you!
