Favorite "outing with the family" lens
1

Kinda related to the other thread I posted. I just picked up this Nikon 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 AF for $26, and I think it might be my new go-to lens for family trips.

At 2.8" long and 350g with a 52mm filter size, it's smaller and lighter than most of the newer primes Nikon makes. The mid zoom range is perfect for needing to take quick snaps of things while keeping track of moving kids. AF has been fast enough to catch anything I want to catch. It can be a little soft at some settings (especially at apertures smaller than f/11), but this is mostly for family snap shots (that won't be printed larger than 5x7), not fine art; the image quality is definitely good enough for some larger prints though. It gets nice and sharp around f/8-11. Plus, it's cheap enough that I don't have to baby it and worry about it.

What is your favorite go-to " out with the family" lens?
