Sadly I will be getting a refund on this camera. It's to heavy and bulky for me to enjoy on my nature walks... there are other reasons but it could just be user error..

took almost 300 photos and these were the best ones.

I just need to work on learning to take better photos with my P900... and maybe look in something with great IQ that I can afford.

..Wow, great looking pictures! :-)

..just something to think about okay..

..maybe your husband can use the P1000 camera..

..this way, both you & your husband can enjoy taking pictures together.. ;-)

..Cheers..

Nothing wrong with these images so there should be no problem getting equivalent results with the P900.

The P1000 is a beast, so completely agree with your decision. I have large and heavy DSLR's so use a black rapid shoulder strap which works well with the P1000.

Finding camera's with a better IQ should be fairly easy but not at the range the P900 and P1000 provide. I think both Sony and Panasonic sell larger sensor "superzooms" maxing out at the 600mm range.

Good luck on your quest.

Oh how I wish!! It would be wonderful if my husband enjoyed it too. I'd gladly hand it to him and off we'd go! :).. nice dream

I'm not sorry I tried out the P1000. I'd always wonder if I hadn't. It's a beautiful camera and in the right (strong LOL) hand's it can be a perfect fit and produce amazing photos I'm sure. I still want to see photos taken with it :)

..and I'm also glad you tried the P1000.. :-)

..we did discuss about the P1000 being a larger & heavier camera, so I completely understand..

..Cheers..

Congratulations for the excellent images, Kathy!

As I told Ron, there's no problem if you think P1000 is too big and heavy for you, because P900 is a perfect superzoom camera :)

I'll try to get accustomed and, if possible, even comfortable with it, but that's a personal option for anyone...

All the best,

Augustin

Hi, can you recommend a black rapid shoulder strap and is it also advisable to use a camera safety tether?
Any of their straps will work. I've had mine for many years now so its a pretty basic strap. I have seen others with pouch compartments that will hold sd cards or batteries and double harness style for carrying two cameras. So its difficult recommending a single model since your needs maybe different.

A less expensive alternative that works fine is the Altura Photo Rapid Fire Camera Neck Strap w/Quick Release and Safety Tether. I was gifted one and it works well also. Main difference is most Black Rapid straps have an underarm strap to it which makes it a snugger fit. The Altura is perfectly fine though. The important thing is to get the weight off your neck. A shoulder strap will eliminate the discomfort many get from having a neck strap. Of course you can use the original camera strap "over the shoulder" however the aforementioned straps are designed for shoulder use. I highly recommend you get one if carrying a heavy camera, which the P1000 is.

Is the safety tether advisable? I have a friend who had a chest harness have an expensive accident in a museum..He turned quickly into a chest high display the camera popped out of the harness and hit the floor. The mounts on his Sony A7III and G master lens were damaged a very expensive repair. A tether would have prevented most if not all the damage. I've never had the problem with a shoulder strap.

WOW - Thank you so much for your detailed input. It is very helpful. I am a novice photographer and primarily take pictures of birds, other wildlife, flowers, and family events. Would love to try some portrait photography. First things first - I need to learn how to use this camera. Thanks again.
