I don't know if it's possible or not, but most of the remaining big-brain stuff about using a camera seems to come down to two issues:
DOF and hyperfocal distance.

I keep meaning to get a organiser to put the relevant data on, but I don't get around to it.

But I was wondering, surely it would be trivial to calculate DOF in-camera, together with hyperfocal distance?

I realise that the display is already crowded, but presumably it would be possible to get that on the display, possibly by pressing a button.
Am I missing something?
Maybe a future upgrade?

You mean, show how far the DOF is (between which distances)
are you gonna measure it with measuring tape?

I believe the DOF preview button does a great job in this.

No,Richard.

I mean that the lens passes information to the camera about it's zoom setting, and the AF looks at the distance ( thinking about this, I am not sure if that's true)

Given those two pieces of data, the camera should be able to calculate what the DOF is at that distance, 2 feet, 6 inches or whatever.

The distance information from the lens is very crude. Sometimes completely wrong. Mainly because AF doesn't really care about the distance to work accurately. Look at the EXIF info and you will see what I mean. Without this information DOF info would be impossible. Good idea though.

I copied the charts of my lenses and pasted them into a word procesor, resized them, and printed them out and carry them in my bag.

This site has software that can run on a PalmOS PDA in the field or on a Windows PC to print DoF charts on layered discs that can be assembled for handy access. The PalmOS version will show you the near, far distance, and I believe the hyperfocal distance on the display, but can't print. It has been a while since I looked the Palm screens on the web site.

Perhaps these will help you.

I take the DOF calculator on a Palm for on-the-fly calculations. It come sin handy once and awhile.
