However, I am a landscape photographer and really want more Mpix, especially for wide format cropping - it's just a 'thing' I want to do.

This new breed of mirrorless with their new mounts offers a chance to reset and look to the future. For myself that would ideally be a Z7, but realistically I think I will be happy with an A7RIII - I expect their pricing to get quite competitive.

At this moment, the Z7 looks like a better option for landscape applications, well, at least better in my own eyes, and I own both Canon and Nikon lenses too, the Z7 has higher resolution, should be better DR and shadow performance too based on the track record of camera from both company, NO AA filter, the weak 18 frame buffer wouldn't be an issue for landscape, while it also have single card slot but it uses XQD not SD so it should clear the buffer  much faster and XQD I heard is more reliable than SD I personally have SD failure twice but so far I have not heard anyone has failure on their XQD yet, including mine on D850 and D500.

Like you said, especially for landscape, the A7R III is even better alternative IMO, it has both the resolution and the speed and dual card slots, you can charge the camera while you are shooting, that's very important if you shoot a lot of night time-lapse, you wil never have to touch the camera to change batteries all night, that's if you can live with its tiny hand grip and control layout and menu, I'll hold off my A7R II upgrade because I really hate its ergonomics of those Sony for handheld shooting, even the III is in fact slightly bigger than the II already. also it doesn't have the same level of weather seal as the typical Canon/Nikon bodies.

I am patiently waiting for the " pro" version of the Canon RF system, to have a spec top the A7R III and with MUCH BETTER ergonomics I have bunch of very nice Canon EF range from 17mm TSE to 500mm super telephoto already.
