Shooting the sun at sunrise

We have been experiencing haze at sunrise that is giving an extremely red sun and relatively clear image. I have not tried shooting this type of scene before. I would say that the sun is not excessively bright. I am using a 5DIII with a 70/200 2.8 at 200. two questions could this particular scenario damage my camera, secondly, I just cannot get my settings right - Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks.

(I did post this query in general as well).
