Canon's sensor tech is certainly lagging compared to Sony's.

It is well ahead in terms of color...

Not to my tastes. A while back, DPR posted a bunch of comparisons between Canon, Nikon, and Sony with regards to color. As it turns out, overall, I favored Sony. That said, it's my opinion that, since I shoot RAW, getting the color I want is a non-issue with regards to differences between the sensors.

i think sony colours have improve a lot ..but on the older cameras it was VERY hard to get the colors right ..the problem is the greenish cast is not consent over the image..if it was it would be very easy to tweak but what i found with my NEX 3c i get for a travel cam  was say in a portrait..in the brighter parts of the face there would be very little cast and you can correct this without affecting the rest of the image  quickly  ..but the cast would be much deeper more apparent in the shadows on the face. getting gradually worse as thay get deeper  .if you adjusted for them  it throws the rest off so you have to go in with a brush and do local adjustments which is VERY time consuming  and after a consible time i still would not be to happy  with the results .... ...i wanted to upgrade the NEX with something with a VF the NEX 6 seamed  at least as bad if not more  as did the A6000  i did solve it in the end ...i get a SL1/100D for my travel cam just to get away from that cast

...dual pixel AF...

Yes.

...and thermal noise (but the latter might be due to no IBIS).

I'm not sure this is still the case. My understanding is the that Z suffers no such issues using both a Sony sensor and IBIS.

BTW, the R sensor has improved dual pixels and microlenses.

Good to hear! However, I saw a base ISO DR comparison and it was [insignificantly] lower than the 5D4, meaning no difference in electronic noise (at base ISO, anyway) and saturation capacity.

There is no argument for FF vs APS-c (or m43) with shallow DOF..as it's a law of physics and a very subjective personal thing if you want to make use of the shallow DOF only FF can offer
